Lady Gaga sang her opening number at Sunday’s Video Music Awards in drag, confusing the hell out of a number of stars in attendance, including Britney Spears, who, mouth agape, looked like she had just walked in on her parents.

Before she got to the singing part, Gaga performed a monologue more than three minutes long, describing herself as Jo Calderone, the pop star’s jilted lover. The drag part wasn’t nearly as weird as the monologue itself, with lines like “She comes out of the shower still drippin’, still got the heels on! At first it was sexy, but now I’m just confused.” You’re not alone, Jo. — PZS
