In his mid-30s, British artist and teacher Sargy Mann went blind from cataracts in both eyes. Twenty-five years later his paintings sell to top collectors for upward of $80,000. He tells the BBC how he lives and paints.

“I had to sort of reinvent painting for myself,” Mann says in the video above. “It seems sort of more or less impossible, but if you’re just determined to keep going, you don’t need to give up. Because if your subject is your own experience, then as long as you’re having an experience, you’ve got a subject. And that has turned out to be true even in total blindness.”
