MSNBC may have thought it was presenting an examination of Trump’s male voter base when it sat down with five men to ask the question: What role did Hillary Clinton play in her husband’s infidelity? But the clip highlights the outrageousness and blatant sexism present in most mainstream media coverage recently.

The piece “was meant to be a follow-up of one that aired on Tuesday, in which [MSNBC] reporter Kasie Hunt interviewed female Republican voters about neglected compost heap Donald Trump’s gender-based attacks on Clinton,” Joanna Rothkopf writes at Jezebel. One man featured in the later piece said Hillary had “exposed the country to untold … humiliation” for doing “nothing about all the women in Bill’s life.”

But if you think the five randomly sampled men interviewed are the only ones being sexist, note how MSNBC’s Tony Dokoupil phrases his questions: “Do you think she’s to blame for Bill Clinton’s wandering?” he asks. “Wait, say this again, this is an important point. One at a time: Do you think Hillary Clinton is to blame for Bill Clinton’s behavior?”

That this was newsworthy to MSNBC is, of course, insulting not only to Hillary Clinton but also to the average American viewer. Who decided that these five men (three of whom support Trump and two of whom are “non-Trump supporters”) were worthy of representing the psyche of the average male voter?
