Women across Central and South America are being warned of a threat that could lead to an “explosive pandemic”: the mosquito-borne Zika virus.

As this AJ Plus video explains, circumstantial evidence points to Zika as the cause of a spike in babies born with brain damage and shrunken heads, known as microcephaly. It may take a decade to develop a vaccine.
