Truthdig contributor Sonali Kolhatkar has been providing video coverage of the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Early on Monday, she spoke with several Bernie Sanders delegates in the Wells Fargo Center. She also joined the “March for Our Lives” protest near Philadelphia’s City Hall.

As the convention kicked off, Kolhatkar joined thousands of demonstrators just outside the walls of the convention center. There was a massive police presence, and several people were arrested. Kolhatkar even snagged an interview with a Sanders superdelegate. “It’s great,” she said of the demonstration. “This is democracy in action.”
