Truthdig contributor Sonali Kolhatkar, reporting from Philadelphia, joined the “March for Our Lives” protest on the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Organized by the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, the protest featured a speech by Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges. Kolhatkar also interviewed notable protesters such as journalist and academic Chenjerai Kumanyika, indigenous climate justice activist Xiuhtezcatl Tonatiuh, and former Green Party vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente.

Earlier Monday, Kolhatkar interviewed Bernie Sanders delegates inside the convention hall. She also joined a massive demonstration outside the Wells Fargo Center as the convention began.
