Stephen Colbert left a big hole in late night political comedy, but Larry Wilmore, the former “senior black correspondent” of “The Daily Show,” promises to fill that space with something “different.” And while several hints are made in the promo below, the show’s site doesn’t beat around the bush with its description: Hosted by Wilmore, the series will feature a diverse panel of voices, providing a perspective largely missing in the late night television landscape.

Diverse. Different. You get the picture. The new show premieres Jan. 19, but in the meantime you can watch the promo below (and this one) as well as snippets of Wilmore’s work on “The Daily Show” to get a sense of the new series’ tone.

This year, the ground feels uncertain — facts are buried and those in power are working to keep them hidden. Now more than ever, independent journalism must go beneath the surface.

At Truthdig, we don’t just report what's happening — we investigate how and why. We follow the threads others leave behind and uncover the forces shaping our future.

Your tax-deductible donation fuels journalism that asks harder questions and digs where others won’t.
