‘The Daily Show’: Stewart Slams Hypocrites Cheney and Rumsfeld

As Republicans continue to pile on the Obama administration in the wake of several recent scandals, “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart argued on his program Wednesday night that there are two conservatives who should not be allowed to join the chorus of right-wing critics: former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Cheney and Rumsfeld, two of the key figures that pushed for the U.S.-led invasion into Iraq a decade ago, are now suddenly being loquacious about President Obama’s handling of the fatal Benghazi, Libya, attacks.

Rumsfeld told Fox News recently that he believed in the wake of the Benghazi incidents, the administration constructed a story line that matched what it wanted to be true.

“You believe the Obama administration’s promoting a narrative?” Stewart inquired about Rumsfeld. “Not because it’s real, but because it fits their hopes and what they want to be the case? You? Señor WMD. McGillicutty, Esq.? The guy who wanted to go after Saddam Hussein on 9/11 while the president was still reading ‘My Pet Goat’? You?! So, no. You alone don’t get to come to the victory parade for the Republicans. You’re the only one who doesn’t get to weigh in.”

Stewart then turned his attention to Cheney–the second highest ranking official in the U.S. when the country was attacked on 9/11–who not only said he couldn’t recall a worse incident then the Benghazi attacks, but also accused Obama of “lying” about it in their aftermath.

“You do not get to use the L-word,” Stewart said of Cheney. “After the lies you told, you don’t get to doubt anyone’s credibility.”

Stewart finished by telling the two that all of the Obama administration’s transgressions put together do not absolve them of the abominations that happened on their watch, which, he noted were “many” and “grievous.”

“So enjoy watching your friends have their fun, but Tweedledick and Tweedlerum don’t get to join the party,” he concluded.
