Hawking apparently recommends a multiphase program to launch our greedy species spaceward. Some of us, he says, might be able to hang out here a little while longer, barring any major nuclear or accelerated ecological cataclysms. According to Hawking, “if we can avoid disaster for the next two centuries, our species should be safe as we spread into space.” –KA
