Democracy Now! gave Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein the opportunity to respond to the same questions put to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in what Politico described as “the ugliest debate in American history.”

Stein and Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson were excluded from the debate under rules set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which is controlled by the Democratic and Republican parties. Democracy Now! invited both Stein and Johnson to join the program, but only Stein accepted the offer.

Independent journalism like Truthdig doesn't just report the news — it helps cultivate a better future.
