As Americans took in the news that Donald Trump will be the nation’s 45th president, many of them apparently decided not to take it sitting down.

Multiple reports of protests around the U.S. cropped up on various news sources starting early Wednesday. The Chicago Tribune brought word of demonstrations of defiance from both coasts:

From Pennsylvania to California, Oregon and Washington hundreds of people hit the streets to voice their opposition to Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton. …

In Oregon, dozens of people blocked traffic in downtown Portland and forced a delay for trains on two light rail lines. Media reports say the crowd grew to about 300 people, including some who sat in the middle of the road to block traffic. The crowd of anti-Trump protesters burned American flags and chanted “That’s not my president.”

In Seattle, a group of about 100 protesters gathered in the [Capitol] Hill neighborhood, blocked roads and set a trash bin on fire.

In Pennsylvania, hundreds of University of Pittsburgh students marched through the streets, with some in the crowd calling for unity.

Los Angeles was also a hotbed of activity. An estimated 2,000 students at the Univeristy of California at Los Angeles gathered on campus and spilled out into busy streets in the Westwood area just after Trump’s win was announced, as campus paper The Daily Bruin reported later Wednesday morning:

Protesters chanted “Fuck Donald Trump,” “Fuck the wall” and “Not my president.”

Students began tearing apart and burning a Donald Trump pinata, and some students tried to flip over a car. The students stopped after noticing a man inside the car. Other students played guitar and held a Mexican flag. …

University of California police officers followed protesters on foot and in police cars around campus, but Los Angeles police and fire officials intervened when the group reached Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue.

On Wilshire Boulevard, students briefly blocked traffic as cars honked, some in support of protesters. Many students held their fists in the air as they ran or walked through the street.

One of the students leading the protest said nobody will accept the results of the election. After marching to Wilshire Boulevard, hundreds of protesters walked to the Janss Investment Company Building, where they did an 8-clap before sitting for about 10 minutes.

The Los Angeles Times relayed news of other uprisings in California and one significant injury involving a protester in the Bay Area:

Demonstrations also were reported in downtown Los Angeles, at UC Santa Cruz and UC Irvine.

A throng marching in Oakland chanted, “Who’s got the power? We got the power.”

Protests in the Bay Area city centered downtown and also saw a march along Highway 24, where a woman was struck by an SUV. She was rushed to the hospital with “major injuries,” California Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Langford told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Small fires in Oakland also prompted the closure of a Bay Area Rapid Transit station.

And in case this election and its aftermath wasn’t surreal or celebrity-driven enough, here’s Lady Gaga, ardent Hillary Clinton supporter, protesting outside Trump Tower on Wednesday morning (via Instagram):
