A congressional inquiry revealed that a high-ranking U.S. Army general in Afghanistan attempted to obstruct an investigation into conditions at a $180 million American-funded hospital in Kabul where patients were treated and kept in “Auschwitz-like” conditions. Graphic photos taken by Army whistle-blowers featured in the “Democracy Now!” broadcast below show neglected, emaciated, starving patients with open wounds that were sometimes covered with maggots.
