A new poll shows Hillary Clinton closing the gap in North Carolina, a state that has been firmly in Barack Obama's corner for weeks. According to the survey, Clinton has made gains among white voters, which many will doubtlessly attribute to the re-emergence of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Obama, who has led in the survey by roughly 10 points for most of the last two months, now leads by just 5 points, 49% to 44%.
Key finding: “White voters are key. Since January, Clinton had led among Carolina whites by 14, 19, 17, 22 and 23 points. But today, suddenly: 31. In the Research Triangle, Clinton is up 9 points, week-on-week; Obama is down 3; a net swing of 12 points to Clinton.”
