“There are a lot of people down,” a runner told The Associated Press, after two blasts brought a traumatic end to the world’s oldest annual marathon.

At this time there are no reports of deaths, but then again very little has been reported yet. We know that police have confirmed at least one explosion and that the blasts took place roughly three hours after the first runners crossed the finish line.

The Boston Marathon is one of the most celebrated public sporting events in the world, and it takes place on Patriots’ Day, a New England holiday that commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution.
