Congressman Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Candy Crowley on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday morning that interviews with workers from the IRS’ Cincinnati office revealed that the order to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status likely came from D.C.

“The indication is they were being directly ordered from Washington,” the California Republican said.

Issa also ripped into White House press secretary Jay Carney over his handling of the scandal. “Their paid liar, their spokesperson, the picture behind, he’s still making up things about what happened and calling this a local rogue,” Issa said, gesturing to a graphic of Carney that was behind Crowley.

He added: “The reason that Lois Lerner [the IRS official who headed the division overseeing tax-exempt groups] tried to take the Fifth is not because there’s a rogue in Cincinnati. It’s because this is a problem that was coordinated. In all likelihood, right out of Washington headquarters.”
