Chris Hedges and Holocaust Survivor Lola Mozes Revisit Nazi-Occupied Poland (Video)
Mozes' testimony is both a history lesson and a cautionary tale for our time.
In this episode of teleSUR’s “Days of Revolt,” host and Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges sits down with Lola Mozes, who survived the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in her home country of Poland.
With his opening question, Hedges situates the dark era of the Holocaust in a more contemporary context, making Mozes’ testimony not just a history lesson, but also a cautionary tale for our time.
“Since my first memories, there was always anti-Semitism,” Mozes tells Hedges in this first of two clips (the second clip is coming soon) from their interview. Mozes’ Jewish family had lived in relative harmony in their mostly Catholic working-class neighborhood until the Nazis invaded and forced them into the ghetto in Bochnia in southern Poland. Hedges notes, and Mozes concurs, that the ghettoization process was gradual.
