In this episode of teleSUR’s “Days of Revolt,” Truthdig columnist and series host Chris Hedges talks with two figures from the American agribusiness center of Salinas, Calif., about the corporate takeover of the city’s political system, its impact on local workers and the similarities between Salinas and Detroit.

Hedges and his guests, civil rights attorney Anthony Prince and City Councilman José Castañeda, investigate issues such as automation, declining wages, homelessness and other challenges faced by Salinas laborers and residents. Increasingly, Hedges reflects, Salinas and other American industrial cities are starting to appear “more and more like the third world,” as extreme wealth is concentrated in corporate headquarters while “huge sections of the city living in substandard conditions or, of course, homeless camps.”
