House Approves Iraq Timetable

The House of Representatives narrowly passed the hotly debated timeline for getting American troops out of Iraq by Aug. 31, 2008. Bush has indicated he will veto the bill. In a statement to the press, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: "The American people see the reality of war. The president does not."

Time announced its "person of the year" on Saturday, dissing everyone from Ahmadinejad to Pelosi in order to declare "you" the winner. Don't you feel special? Specifically, the magazine highlighted websites including YouTube, Wikipedia and MySpace for "bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter."

The Media’s Centrist Bias

With the battle to frame the meaning of the election ongoing, the media have started to weigh in with a vote for the center. Time, which referred to the '94 Republican takeover of Congress as a "GOP Stampede," calls the center the "new place to be," while Newsweek's cover bizarrely claims the election validates the "centrist" politics of George H.W. Cheney Cops to the Obvious
