Rep. Patrick Kennedy Says He Won’t Run for Re-Election

Feb 12, 2010
Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, announced in a video released late Thursday that he won't be seeking re-election this year. Kennedy doesn't address the reasons for his decision in his vague video, but he signals his gratitude to the people of Rhode Island and folds in a nice tribute to his dad while he's at it.

Wilson’s Apology (Plus a Campaign Plug)

Sep 11, 2009
So, Congressman Joe Wilson heckled President Obama during Wednesday's speech on health care reform. On Thursday, Obama accepted Wilson's apology, but that same day the South Carolina lawmaker leveraged the situation by posting this video calling for voters' support and announcing he was "under attack by liberals for standing up against a government takeover of health care."

Next Stop: Tensiontown, Israel

Jan 14, 2009
As the death toll of Israel's bombardment of the Gaza Strip moves past 1,000, tensions between Arab Israelis and Jewish Israelis are growing. Some of the country's Arab population is increasingly vocal in denouncing the bombings, while some Israeli politicians are trying to ban the re-election of Arabs to parliament on the grounds of alleged national disloyalty.

It’s All Over for Stevens

Nov 19, 2008
Ted Stevens will not be returning to work in the Senate after surviving there longer than any Republican ever. The convicted felon lost his re-election battle with Democrat Mark Begich by a few thousand votes after leading on election night. The news came on Stevens' 85th birthday.

Stevens Won’t Back Down

Oct 28, 2008
Even as his conviction has politicos rethinking Senate filibuster math, Ted Stevens of Alaska says he'll fight the verdict and continue campaigning for re-election. It's not all bad news for the longest serving Senate Republican -- and you really can't make this up -- the Senate doesn't ban convicted felons.

Congress’ Second Helping

Jun 13, 2008
Pork, as in earmarks, not as in pig, is again in vogue this political season only a year after a 2007 congressional promise to curb what some call wasteful spending in politicians' home districts. At the top of the earmarking ladder is the defense authorization bill (read military-industrial complex), which saw a 29 percent increase in district spending since 2007.

Fear Mongering with a Dash of Racism From Sen. Burns… Again

Aug 31, 2006
Sen. Conrad Burns of Montana, a man who not so long ago referred to his house painter as a "nice little Guatemalan man," has delivered yet another stunning one-liner. Ready for the punch line? At a campaign event with Laura Bush, Burns talked about the war on terrorism, saying "faceless" enemies "drive taxi cabs in the daytime and kill at night." Nice.
