War-Addicted U.S. Afflicted With Imperialist Hangover

There is an important current in conservative U.S. opinion that believes Western Europe to be under something like a siege, or a potential siege, by its large Muslim immigrant population. I should actually say that it's not just American conservatives, although they write alarmed books about the impending Muslim domination of Europe, and the collapse of European Christianity and identity. They fear the Decline of the West.

Dutch Lawmaker’s Anti-Islam Film Hits the Web

Conservative Dutch politician Geert Wilders certainly isn't helping resolve religious and cultural tensions within his country with the release of his short film "Fitna" (running time 17 minutes), which portrays Islam in an extremely negative light. According to the BBC, the Dutch government "has distanced itself" from Wilders' views. Good idea.

Madrid Bombing Raises ETA Concerns

At least four people were injured when a car bomb exploded at the Madrid airport on Saturday. If the separatist group ETA is responsible, as the Spanish government has charged, the blast would signal the end of a cease-fire that began in March.

Ex-Terror Suspect Wins Out Over FBI

An Oregon lawyer and convert to Islam has settled his lawsuit against the FBI for $2 million. Brandon Mayfield, who sued after he was falsely linked to the Madrid train bombings, described his experiences as an Orwellian nightmare where "an act that strips you of your civil rights could be called a Patriot Act."
