Donald Trump announced Wednesday he will not be attending Thursday’s Republican presidential debate on Fox News—because of presenter Megyn Kelly’s position as moderator.

In a previous GOP primary debate, Kelly asked Trump a question regarding sexist comments he had made. Trump deflected the question and afterward made a comment that Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever.”

It is unprecedented for a presidential front-runner to pull out of a TV debate on the eve of the Iowa polls, and while Trump’s unconventional moves have so far only expanded his support, his planned boycott leaves him open to criticism that he is dodging face-to-face confrontations with his political opponents and scrutiny from the Fox moderators.

This Washington Post video explains Trump’s withdrawal from the debate.

In a statement, Fox News hit back at Trump’s explanation to CNN that he does not like Kelly because “she doesn’t treat me fairly.”

“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president – a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings,” the statement said.
