How telling that the Nobel Peace Prize has been granted to the United Nations agency that Bush kicked out of Iraq after it failed to find weapons of mass destruction that he just knew were there. See BBC story.

When folks like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry whitewash their support for the war, they never do tell us why an invasion couldn’t have been delayed until after the U.N. inspectors on the ground at the time finished their work.

And for those who think that putting pressure on Democratic leaders to be honest about the war is divisive, I say we need more division in the party between the doves and the hawks, not less. Just take the example of Sen. Joseph Lieberman–who is more Cheney than Cheney on Iraq–and recall that it was the Democrats who gave us the Vietnam War. Yes, I voted for the guy, but at least Al Gore is looking better than ever. See Washington Post report.

If you're reading this, you probably already know that non-profit, independent journalism is under threat worldwide. Independent news sites are overshadowed by larger heavily funded mainstream media that inundate us with hype and noise that barely scratch the surface. We believe that our readers deserve to know the full story. Truthdig writers bravely dig beneath the headlines to give you thought-provoking, investigative reporting and analysis that tells you what’s really happening and who’s rolling up their sleeves to do something about it.

Like you, we believe a well-informed public that doesn’t have blind faith in the status quo can help change the world. Your contribution of as little as $5 monthly or $35 annually will make you a groundbreaking member and lays the foundation of our work.
