The Webby Awards

Update: Today is the last day to vote. Do it here.

This just in: Truthdig’s Ear to the Ground section has been nominated in the Best Political Blog category for the 2014 Webby Awards.

We’re thrilled to be included in this bracket, near and dear to our hearts as it is, since we’ve always been a fully online operation. This year we’re in some prestigious company too, sharing the lineup with The Daily Beast’s Washington Bureau blog, The Atlantic Politics, The Center for Public Integrity: Primary Source and Exit Syria – Diaries from Za’atari.

Every year, two Webbys are handed out for each category: A group of professionals picks a winner for a juried award, and the public also gets to weigh in by voting for the People’s Voice Webby Award.

We’d be honored if you’d click here to vote for Truthdig for the People’s Voice Webby Award in the Web: Blog – Political category.

In return for that pitch, we’ll take this nod as welcome recognition that our efforts to keep Truthdig what it’s been from the start — a truly independent news source featuring some of the boldest, most original voices on the Web — are holding strong for the better part of a decade.

Best of all, though, is the reward that we get each day when our engaged and enlightened online community joins in the conversations our bloggers and columnists kick off. You’re all part of our chorus — and this one’s truly for you.

Wait, before you go…

If you're reading this, you probably already know that non-profit, independent journalism is under threat worldwide. Independent news sites are overshadowed by larger heavily funded mainstream media that inundate us with hype and noise that barely scratch the surface. We believe that our readers deserve to know the full story. Truthdig writers bravely dig beneath the headlines to give you thought-provoking, investigative reporting and analysis that tells you what’s really happening and who’s rolling up their sleeves to do something about it.

Like you, we believe a well-informed public that doesn’t have blind faith in the status quo can help change the world. Your contribution of as little as $5 monthly or $35 annually will make you a groundbreaking member and lays the foundation of our work.
