Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, vocalized concerns that the Supreme Court is being captured by corporate special interest groups during a speech last week at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy National Convention in Washington, D.C.

Warren is particularly concerned about the Chamber of Commerce, the pro-business lobby group that spent more than $100 million last year to promote its interests.

“Take a look at the win rate of the Chamber of Commerce,” she said. “According to the Constitution Accountability Center, the chamber moved from a 43 percent win rate during the very conservative Berger court to a 56 percent win rate under the very conservative Rehnquist court. And now they are at a 70 percent win rate under the Roberts court.”

She continued: “Follow this pro-business trend to its obvious conclusion and you will end up with a Supreme Court that’s a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber of Commerce.”

The Chamber of Commerce is particularly bolstered on the high court by its conservative justices (who now constitute the majority), who side with the business lobby 82 percent of the time, according to The National Memo.
