Dig, Root, GrowThe Miami Herald: Burress was in a Manhattan court room on Thursday for arraignment after being indicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of second-degree reckless endangerment on August 3.
The former Super Bowl hero had faced at least 3½ years in prison if convicted on a weapons charge, but instead made a plea agreement with prosecutors on a lesser charge — one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The agreement of 24 months in prison will likely be reduced to 20 because of good behavior.
“I give Plaxico a great deal of credit for accepting responsibility,” said Burress’ attorney, Benjamin Brafman, outside the courtroom. “Plaxico decided he wanted to do this, put this behind him as quickly as possible. If we went to trial and were convicted, he would face a significantly greater prison sentence.”
