Julian Assange Requests Asylum in Equador

The WikiLeaks publisher who has been a thorn in the side of many governments now seeks the protection of one. The Ecuadorian Embassy in London is sheltering Assange while Quito reviews his request for asylum.
Britain’s high court has approved Assange’s extradition to Sweden over sex crime allegations that the Australian denies. Assange fears that Sweden may send him on to the United States or another hostile government that has been embarrassed by WikiLeaks.
If Ecuador refuses his request, Assange could take his case to the European Court of Human Rights, reports the BBC.
