Is This Really the End of Stephen Colbert and His Beloved ‘Colbert Report’?

“Who would’ve thought that a means of communication limited to 140 characters would ever create misunderstanding?” the comedian jokes about Twitter, the social media network that recently spelled out his demise.

For those of you who missed the #CancelColbert storm that hit the Internet over the weekend, the pundit offers a recap of the events spurred by an out-of-context tweet and shows us what a world without “The Colbert Report” would look like. Let’s just say it’s not pretty.

The late night show host also delivers a characteristically humorous, lengthy sort-of-apology as well as a defense of Suey Park, the Asian-American “hashtivist” who created the now infamous Twitter hashtag devoted to taking “The Colbert Report” off the air.

Colbert’s pal and “Colbert Report” producer Jon Stewart weighs in on the topic, creating his own hashtag accompanied by an offensive joke about women, #CancelStewart:

So no, the Internet did not kill Stephen Colbert and his show, though it did raise a lot of questions about Twitter, media and race in the U.S. But for now at least CNN can return to reporting 24/7 about the search for MH370.
