A special cap funnelling oil from the Gulf of Mexico spill appears to be having some success, a US coast guard official has said.
Thad Allen said 6,000 barrels of oil were captured in a 24-hour period since the procedure began on Thursday.

Mr Allen said BP hoped to increase the amount captured in the next few days.
