Historian Juan Cole Warns Against Strongmen at Home and Abroad
In an interview by Truthdig's Robert Scheer, the Middle East scholar also says that Islamic terrorism is overreported in the U.S. and criticizes the linking of violence and religion.

On KCRW’s “Scheer Intelligence,” the University of Michigan Middle East scholar tells Truthdig Editor in Chief Robert Scheer that Islamic terrorism is overreported in the United States and that associating violence and religion is erroneous.
Cole and Scheer also discuss the possible benefits of President Trump’s stated interest in resetting relations with Russia. Concerning the Middle East, Cole sees a bleak future for the Palestinians despite ongoing peace efforts.
