Epic Romney Fail, Another Supreme Court Leak, and More

Another SCOTUS Leak, Another Bombshell:

It’s a new day, so how about another leak from the nation’s high court? This one’s a doozy: Chief Justice John Roberts, who cast the deciding vote to uphold Obamacare and wrote the majority opinion, also wrote most of the dissent for the ruling. Paul Campos wrote on Salon: “My source insists that ‘most of the material in the first three quarters of the joint dissent was drafted in Chief Justice Roberts’ chambers in April and May.’ Only the last portion of what eventually became the joint dissent was drafted without any participation by the chief justice.” There’s probably few — if any — instances of a justice writing both the majority opinion and the dissent in one case. If Campos’ source is correct, that’s exactly what happened here. (Read more)

Romney Campaign’s Venn Diagram Fail: Mitt Romney apparently does not understand the concept of a Venn diagram. You know, those things you learned in middle school math class? In Venn diagrams 101, you probably learned the overlap is usually used to demonstrate what the two circles have in common. Instead, Romney’s campaign used it to demonstrate President Obama’s “middle-class promise gap [on] healthcare.” Nice concept, but poor execution. Then again, would you expect anything less from the campaign that misspelled the word “America” on an iPhone app? (Read more)

Bryson Won’t Be Charged: The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Tuesday that it has decided not to file charges against former Commerce Secretary John Bryson for his involvement in a series of hit-and-run accidents one day last month. Bryson resigned his post in the Obama administration shortly after. According to the report, Bryson had Ambien in his system at the time of the car crashes but tested negative for alcohol and controlled substances. “Both treating doctors agree that suspect was suffering from confusion following a seizure and crashed as a result,” the DA’s report said. Congressman Criticizes Opponent for Discussing Military Service: Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh is drawing criticism (and rightly so) for saying his Democratic opponent is not a “true hero” because she talks about her military career too much. The congressman is running against Tammy Duckworth, who served in the war in Iraq and lost both of her legs in a helicopter crash. Such audacity that a double amputee would want to talk about her military service! Here’s what Walsh told supporters at a town hall meeting Sunday: “Now I’m running against a woman who — I mean, my God, that’s all she talks about.” Perhaps Walsh, who never served in the military, should stick to speaking about topics he knows something about — like not paying child support, for example. Video of the Day: Bill O’Reilly, who said in March that he would apologize “for being an idiot” if the Supreme Court upheld President Obama’s health care law, finally said he was sorry — kind of. “I’m not really sorry, but I am a man of my word, so I apologize for not factoring in the John Roberts situation,” the Fox News host said on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. To clarify: O’Reilly apologized, but he’s not actually sorry.
