Elizabeth Warren Slams the Corporate Court

“You follow this pro-corporate trend to its logical conclusion, and sooner or later you’ll end up with a Supreme Court that functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of big business,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said in a speech Sunday to the AFL-CIO convention in Los Angeles.

Warren’s speech was, in the words of Politico, a “populist paean to the role of labor in fighting ‘powerful interests [that] have tried to capture Washington and rig the system in their favor.’ “

She warned that new trade agreements could be so distasteful to American workers that someone told her they should be negotiated in secret. Warren also criticized the “big banks and their army of lobbyists” who “have fought every step of the way to delay, water down, block, or strike down regulations.”

When she left the stage to applause, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is reported to have told the crowd, “Ah, if we could only clone her.”
