California Attorney General Jerry Brown is making his play to once again become governor of the Golden State, and he stepped out Tuesday night at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles — wisely starting his speech after the Celtics-Lakers game concluded — to extoll the value of frugality in these tough economic times and to declare that “we’re not scapegoating immigrants” in this corner of the country. Oh, and he also took a not-so-thinly-veiled shot at his Republican challengers and their pricey battle to the primary finish line. –KA
