Guess Who Won’t Be Voting for Donald Trump in the New York Primary
In an interview with TV’s “Fox & Friends,” the Republican presidential candidate lambasted the Colorado GOP voting system—and shared the surprising information that he won't receive two votes he had expected in next week's primary in his home state.
This might make for an awkward family dinner. On a recent “Fox & Friends” TV interview, Donald Trump revealed two people who won’t be voting for him in next week’s New York primary: his children Eric and Ivanka.
Trump said:
“They were unaware of the rules, and they didn’t register in time. So they feel very, very guilty. They feel guilty. But it’s fine. I mean I understand that. I think they have to register a year in advance, and they didn’t. So Eric and Ivanka, I guess, won’t be voting.”
Trump spent most of the 11-minute interview ranting about the “crooked” and “rigged” nature of the political system, after his major loss at the GOP convention in Colorado over the weekend.
The 2016 election is the first time the state GOP did not hold its vote on Super Tuesday, when the voter caucus took place. Because of a change in the party’s rules last summer, delegates were chosen through congressional district meetings and at the state party convention.
New York has a closed primary, meaning voters must be registered with a candidate’s party in order to vote for that person.
According to the New York Daily News, “Voting records show Eric and Ivanka are both ‘not enrolled’ in a party. … The New York State deadline for voters to change party enrollment passed six months ago, and the deadline for new registration was March 25.”
