Valentine’s Day is often dismissed by critics as just one of many Hallmark-generated holidays with its heart in the wrong place, but a British primary school is taking the anti-Valentine angle quite literally, prohibiting students from exchanging cards and candies and warning that any attempt to swap sentimental greetings will be stopped on the spot — but it’s not exactly for the reasons you might suspect. –KA

A primary school in Weston-super-Mare has been criticised for banning Valentine cards to save pupils the “emotional trauma” of being rejected.

Children at Ashcombe Primary School were stopped from exchanging cards because the head teacher said they were not emotionally mature enough to cope.

Peter Turner told parents of the 430 pupils that cards would be confiscated.
