A 21-year-old U.S. soldier stationed in Germany called his dad Tuesday morning to tell him that he is gay, and he filmed the entire exchange.

The soldier, who had posted videos on YouTube in the past revealing his sexual orientation, showed his face for the first time in the coming-out video, which quickly went viral.

He is one of many military members who decided to “come out” after the official repeal of the military’s 17-year-old “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
