President Obama’s approval rating among 18- to 29-year-olds has fallen considerably in recent months, from 61.6 percent in October to 52.3 at the beginning of July, according to Gallup.

Harry J Enten at The Guardian suggests that young people, who have tended to favor the Democratic Party, may be rejecting their president because of the NSA spying revelations made in early June, as well as the fact that they partly blame Obama for failing to improve the economy in a way that translates into quality jobs for them.

“What this data does affirm is that President Obama has seen his approval rating among young voters drop more than among any other age bloc over the past few months,” Enten writes. “This means Obama’s famous ‘youth vote’ is not, in fact, tied to the Democratic brand.”
