Patience is turning out to be a virtue for President Obama, who appears determined to launch a military attack on Syria but would prefer to have broader international support.

Earlier, Obama decided to wait for congressional approval before attacking the Syrian regime, which the president says used chemical weapons against its own people.

In the past, Obama sought and won the blessing of the Arab League before backing military action in Libya.

According to Reuters:

The final resolution passed by an Arab League meeting in Cairo urged the United Nations and international community to “take the deterrent and necessary measures against the culprits of this crime that the Syrian regime bears responsibility for”.

The League foreign ministers also said those responsible for the attack should face trial, as other “war criminals” have.

If President Obama really wants to add an air of legitimacy to his latest show of military force, he’ll wait not only for congressional approval, but the findings of the U.N. inspectors who collected samples from the site of the most notorious of the alleged chemical attacks. And he might fully disclose his evidence, something skeptics have asked for.
