On Thursday, followers of the case were stunned to learn that officer Caesar Goodson, who drove the transport van containing Gray, was acquitted of the murder charges against him.
In The Real News Network video below, activists, including Tessa Hill Aston, head of the Baltimore chapter of the NAACP, discuss the ruling.
“It’s just a flaw in the system,” Aston says. “Someone is dead at the hands of the police, and they don’t get [charged.]”
In the video, legal scholar Doug Colbert talks about the internal politics of charging a police officer. “There are those that will always say that charges should never be brought against a police officer because of the danger of their position,” he says.
