In the early afternoon of the final day of the Democratic National Convention, Truthdig Editor in Chief Robert Scheer streamed a live video discussion with special guests Jeff Cohen and Norman Solomon to discuss the discord among Bernie Sanders’ delegates.

Jeff Cohen founded the media watch group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) and has been following the Bernie Sanders movement. Norman Solomon, an activist and writer, has been supportive of the Sanders campaign and critical of the Democratic Party.

“Let’s cut right to the chase here,” Scheer says, “Did you guys — you Democrats — sell out last night?” Scheer explains that he feels the new Democratic Party demonstrated its “jingoistic patriotism” on night three of the convention.

Cohen discusses the media bias throughout the coverage of the convention, and Solomon explains the serious critique of Sanders delegates. At one point two Sanders delegates join the conversation. Melissa Michaelson, the Bernie Sanders delegate whip for southern California, explains the difficulties of working with other delegates and convention officials. Solomon says that the vast majority of speeches he’s listened to over the past few days were “nonsense.”

Much of the focus of the discussion is on foreign policy. The participants note that while Sanders is notably not strong on foreign policy, most of his delegates have strong feelings on the matter — which led to the type of disruption seen during Leon Panetta’s speech last night.

“We have disrupted that placid pretense that all is well,” Solomon states. “Our role…is not to give Hillary Clinton one nanosecond of a political honeymoon.”
