Mr. Fish

Mad in America

What do we have now? An anti-war movement that is so gutless and so savagely unimaginative that it has proved itself to be too lazy, even too cowardly, to face down the very disease of oligarchy that it had concocted itself to cure.

We Can’t Afford War

The U.S. will eventually negotiate its withdrawal from Afghanistan. The only difference between now and then will be the number of dead, on all sides, and the amount of (borrowed) money that will be spent.

Time for the Iraq Debate to Move On

MoveOn, L.A. Times Endorse Obama

Barack Obama had cause for celebration Friday. Though he still trails Hillary Clinton in most big states, he picked up two endorsements that will undoubtedly have an impact. MoveOn says it is already mobilizing its 3.2 million members—more than half of whom live in super Tuesday states—on behalf of Obama. The Los Angeles Times was flattering of Clinton, but, as the editorial board put it: “Clinton would be a valuable and competent executive, but Obama matches her in substance and adds something that the nation has been missing far too long—a sense of aspiration.”

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton to the Rescue

The former president calls BS on the Republicans for their “feigned outrage” over MoveOn’s “General Betray Us” ad: “Come on, these Republicans that are all upset about Petraeus ... these are the people that ran a television ad in Georgia with Max Cleland, who lost half his body in Vietnam, in the same ad with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. ... And the person that rode to the Senate on that ad was there voting to condemn the Democrats over the Petraeus ad.”

MoveOn.org Ad Slams ‘General Betray Us’

In anticipation of Monday’s face-off between Gen. Petraeus and Congress on Iraq, MoveOn.org placed a provocative ad, to say the least, in The New York Times, asking whether the general should be dubbed “General Betray Us” and accusing him of “cooking the books for the White House.”

Petraeus Grilled by Congress

It seemed like a case of “hate the war, but hail the general” as the U.S. military commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, faced criticism and tough questions during his and Ambassador Ryan Crocker’s congressional check-in on Monday about the current status and future direction of the Iraq war.
