In a video from several years ago, Pence attempted to deflect a question about Israel’s nuclear weapons by committing to the line “Israel is our most cherished ally.”Mike Pence, who on Thursday was announced as Donald Trump’s choice for vice president, has a long record of supporting Israel. Like many of his conservative peers, however, he doesn’t always have the best answer when asked directly about Israel’s foreign policy.

The video is composed of responses from several years ago, and around the 4-minute mark, you can watch Pence’s reaction to being asked about Israel’s nuclear arsenal. At the time, Pence was vice chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, but he had a hard time stating anything more concrete than “Israel is our most cherished ally.”
