Jeremy Corbyn: Missile Strike on Syria ‘Legally Questionable’
The British Labour Party leader says the rationale for the strike could be used to justify bombing Saudi Arabia over its devastating war on Yemen.
The Real News released a video of British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn calling the U.S.-U.K.-French missile strike on Syria on April 13 “legally questionable.” Corbyn also expressed concern that the strike could escalate “an already devastating conflict.”
“Corbyn pointed out that if one were to be consistent with the same rationale used to justify the missile strike on Syria, one could just as well justify bombing Saudi Arabia over its devastating war on Yemeni civilians,” said The Real News reporter Ben Norton.
Corbyn also said that [British Prime Minister Theresa] “May should have sought parliamentary approval, not trailed after Donald Trump.”
“Bombs won’t save lives or bring about peace,” he said, adding that Britain should not be “taking instructions from Washington and putting British military personnel in harm’s way.”
