What on Earth Is ‘NRA TV’? John Oliver Explains (Video)
"You may have actually seen tiny bits of [the channel's] programming without even realizing it," says the "Last Week Tonight" host in a recent segment.
In a segment that began with “Last Week Tonight” host talking about the financial repercussions that protests after the Parkland shooting have had on the National Rifle Association, John Oliver comes across an lesser-known wing of the NRA: NRA TV.
The channel came up as media revealed that Apple, Amazon and Roku hadn’t dropped NRA TV from their TV services, despite public pressure to do so.
“You may have actually seen tiny bits of [the channel’s] programming without even realizing it,” says the comedian.
Oliver goes on to summarize (and ultimately satirize) the content of the gun-promoting channel, but comes to the following conclusion: “[NRA TV is] just a vessel to sell America guns.”
“There is a lot to be concerned about regarding the NRA’s activities,” he adds, “but NRA TV may actually be the dumbest, most transparent thing that it does.”
