In late 2016, journalist Abby Martin interviewed then-16-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi. Tamimi is known for a video of her slapping an Israeli soldier after another soldier shot her 14-year-old cousin in the face with a rubber-coated steel bullet. Both incidents took place at a demonstration opposing the expansion of Israeli settlements near the village of Nabi Salih in the West Bank.

On Dec. 19, 2017,  Israeli forces raided Tamimi’s house and arrested her, charging her with assault, incitement and throwing stones. She remains in jail, and her arrest has called international attention to Israel’s treatment of Palestinian children.
