9 Dead in Shooting at Omaha Mall

A gunman who opened fire at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb., Wednesday afternoon turned his gun on himself after killing eight people and wounding nine others, according to local authorities. At a news briefing following the shooting at the Von Maur department store, Sgt. Teresa Negron of the Omaha Police Department said the person believed to be the gunman was dead and his identity had not yet been confirmed.

Shooting at Cleveland High School

A gunman went on a shooting rampage in a high school in downtown Cleveland on Wednesday. The gunman, who aimed shots at several people before killing himself, had apparently made threats at SuccessTech Academy last week. According to Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, three teenagers and two adults were injured.

The Field Trip From Hell

A school in Tennessee recently staged a drill with a fake gunman during a week-long field trip that left students terrified and in tears. The sixth-graders were told a teacher dressed in a hooded sweatshirt was a shooter on the loose and that it was not a drill. The school's principal said the incident "involved poor judgment."

The AP reported that a police SWAT team descended upon an administrative building on campus to investigate a potential bomb threat linked to gunman Cho Seung-Hui, who killed himself Monday.

A day after the deadly shootings at Virginia Tech that killed 33 people, police have released the identity of the gunman. He was 23-year-old senior Cho Seung-Hui, a "loner," according to a campus official, who moved to the U.S. from South Korea 14 years ago.
