Brazil's Bizarro Sarah Palin, former Environment Minister Marina Silva, has just resigned from the ruling Worker's Party in protest of the party's neglect of environmental concerns. The move by Silva, a popular rain forest activist who had been a 30-year party member, is also believed to be an attempt to ramp up support for a run at the presidency next year.

EPA Weighs Waste Plants’ Impact on the Poor

The EPA will be closely examining the effects of hazardous waste recycling plants on low-income and minority communities. Poorer people disproportionately live in areas where such plants exist and suffer from health-related illnesses caused by the sites. The move reinstates a law dating back to the Clinton era that was largely ignored by the Bush administration.
