President Obama on the Death of Osama bin Laden

As he announced the death of Osama bin Laden on Sunday night, President Barack Obama gave a nod to nationalism, remarking that "today's achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people." Packaging aside, what apparently happened is that the elusive al-Qaida leader was killed by U.S. forces, who "took custody of his body," according to Obama. As he announced the death of Osama bin Laden on Sunday night, President Barack Obama gave a nod to nationalism.

Suicide Attack Kills at Least 20 in Karachi

A suicide bomber struck a procession of Shiite Muslims in Karachi, Pakistan, on Monday as they commemorated the day of Ashura, a traditional day of mourning and remembrance of the Prophet Muhammad's martyred grandson. According to the Los Angeles Times, 20 people were killed and dozens wounded in the blast -- the third attack in three days in Pakistan.

Dozens of Pakistani Politicians Called to Corruption Courts

Pakistan's Supreme Court dealt a blow to many in the country's ruling elite Friday by reopening corruption cases against "thousands of politicians," according to The New York Times, and calling for dozens of those officials to appear before the courts. Included on the list was President Asif Ali Zardari, but his position grants him immunity against prosecution.

U.N. Investigating Bhutto Murder

It's been a year and a half since the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, and although her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, is now Pakistan's president, local investigations haven't produced many answers about her murder. Cambodia Déjà Vu: the Invasion of Pakistan

Last September, during the American presidential campaign, I wrote a column declaring that the United States had again invaded Cambodia, only this time "Cambodia" was Pakistan. President George W. Bush had ordered U.S. ground attacks on the Taliban inside Pakistan's Tribal Territories, without Pakistan's authorization.
