Hillary Clinton vs. Richard Nixon: The Movie

Posted on Dec 3, 2013

Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Of all the movie treatments thrown around ahead of Hillary Clinton’s inevitable 2016 presidential run, “Rodham” actually sounds the most interesting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (by way of Political Wire), Lionsgate, the studio behind the “Saw” and “Hunger Games” movies, is in early talks (Hollywood jargon for “lunch”) to back the project.

It reportedly focuses on Hillary Clinton’s early years (hence the title, her maiden name), when she was a lawyer working to impeach President Richard Nixon. Of course there’s also a romantic angle: Will she or won’t she settle down with Bill and move to the sticks.

NBC was working on a miniseries about Clinton and CNN had a documentary in the works, but both were canned. The Republican Party threatened to boycott any network that gave Clinton what it viewed as a free media advantage headed into the election.

Of course Lionsgate doesn’t have to worry about GOP talking heads, candidates and debaters cooperating with its programming schedule. Despite being one of the most profitable film studios, Lionsgate is an independent, publicly traded company based in Santa Monica, Calif.
