Sheerly Avni is a Mexico City-based film and culture writer. A former editor of Salon.com, she also has written for The San Francisco Chronicle, LA Weekly, San Francisco Magazine, AlterNet and Truthdig. Her book about Northern California film directors, "Cinema by the Bay," was published in 2006.
Avni also spent 15 years as a workshop facilitator and editor at The Beat Within, a weekly publication by and for incarcerated youth. Most recently she was a writer/producer on the Netflix series "Ingobernable."
