Raksha Kumar is a multimedia journalist who focuses on human rights, politics and social injustice. She's the founder of thenutgraph.in, a reportage-based website that will go live in 2020.
Kumar has reported for The New York Times, BBC, the Guardian, Time magazine, South China Morning Post, Scroll and The Hindu. She has reported from 11 countries, often covering South Asia. She also wrote, filmed and directed a documentary on rationalists in contemporary India. Doordarshan, India's public broadcaster, aired the film.
In 2018, Kumar won India's National Media Award for reportage on land rights. In 2017, she was shortlisted for the Kurt Schork Memorial Awards in International Journalism. For her work on land conflicts in India, she received the Chameli Devi Award for Outstanding Media Personality in 2016.
Kumar was a Chevening Fellow at the University of Westminster in London and a Fulbright Scholar in Leadership Development at Columbia University in New York. As a student, she received a Scripps Howard Fellowship to report from Israel and the West Bank.
